Per
Bill 41 (CO 22-07), all Waikiki Sunset units are allowed to do short-term renting, including units without a NUC (owners must register their unit for short-term renting -
see here).
Most units are 1 bedroom with the bedroom having a door and wall to properly seperate the bedroom from the living room. The units have a small balcony, which can comfortably hold 2 people (not more). A few units on the 6 floor (amenity deck level) have an over-sized patio. All units come with central AC and 1 unassigned parking stall, which is a nice bonus to offer vacationers. The end units, on the Diamond Head side - 13 and 14 stacks - are are small 2 bedroom units and many offer incredible Diamond Head and ocean views. For the 1 bedroom units, the even numbered units face the ocean and some higher floor units will have dramatic ocean views, whereas mid and lower levels even numbered units ocean views will be significantly obstructed by various buildings. Uneven numbers face the mountain. All units also have a full kitchen.
Waikiki Sunset is located in the east part of Waikiki, which means, besides easy access to all Waikiki has to offer, one is also in close proximity to Kapiolani Park (great for walks / runs) and Kapahulu Ave (many restaurants).
Most Waikiki Sunset units have operated as short-term rentals since the property was built, although legally only the units with a NUC were allowed to run a short-term rental business (learn more about
short-term renting rules and more in our Guide). In recent years there was a big controvery and the City of Honolulu requested non-NUC owners in Waikiki Sunset to stop running short-term rentals, only to, eventually, grandfather non-NUC Waikiki Sunset units in to a bill, which means all units can now, legally, operate as short-term rentals (as long as an owner registers, as requested by the City).
