The Ohana Kewalo consists of 2 separate buildings in the Makiki neighborhood. Although they sit on a concrete lot, there are palm trees right next door and a high green hedge separating the property from its mauka neighbor, the First Christian Church of Honolulu.
Besides the fact that this makes for quiet in that direction, outside of maybe a few hours on Sunday, the church even rents parking to residents of this Honolulu condo. That's a good neighbor.
The units themselves are an interesting collection, but anchored by more expected Studio/1BA residences of 334 to 364 sq ft. Yet there are also 1BR/1BA layouts of 532 to 608 sq ft that are less conventional. One 592 sq ft 1BR, for instance, is split level with a sunken area upstairs that can be used as your living room or a special place for your bed. Another 1BR flips that by giving you a raised dining area.
There aren't any lanais on these floor plans and the low-rise structures don't provide wide-angle views. However, most of your surroundings are low-rise as well, so you're not enclosed. It's the general blueprint of this part of town and you fit right in.
Commuting is simpler from this site, with Keeaumoku St just to the east, taking you right down to King/Beretania, then it's straight on from there. That same route takes you to Times, Safeway, Foodland Walgreens and, if you continue on Keeamoku a couple of minutes, right to WalMart and Ala Moana Center. What might be the greatest selection in shopping and dining in the Islands is all right there.
Trips to other parts of Oahu can get started quickly from your home, too. H1 lets you on without much delay, since you can be rolling west on the highway from the Lunalilo entrance a few blocks away or be eastbound in even less time from the Piikoi ramp.
Touted as among the most affordable
condos in Honolulu around with some of the lowest maintenance fees to boot, that alone will make the Ohana Kewalo listings leap of the page. Once you realize how much more there is to this property the prospect of living here just might cause you to do some leaping, too.
