The Nuuanu neighborhood is best known for its territory on, and just off of, the Pali Highway. That's to be expected, since that's where you'll find so many of the Old Kamaaina houses and estates. However, Nuuanu is also home to many excellent condominiums, even if they sit in the shadow of those classic residences.
This entire district drew the elite even in the times of the old Alii, who made their way here especially in the summer months to take advantage of the cooler climes.
The thick flora, that is still present today all over Nuuanu, cast needed shade as well as creating a wonderfully green setting. So plentiful are the trees and plants, they set this area distinctly apart from much of Honolulu. You feel fully embraced and protected when you live within these forests.
The upward slope of much of this neighborhood is also made for views, looking down upon Honolulu's central areas and the blue of the ocean that goes so well with your emerald surroundings.
The Condos The condos of this district are primarily on the Nuuanu Avenue section, before it intersects with the Pali Highway. They're often very nice, such as the
Nuuanu Parkside, a
luxury condo of all 2 & 3 bedrooms that have lanais of at least 189 sq ft, on up to 346 sq ft. They're perfect for panoramic vistas of the city, the mountains and the waters around our Island. You know it's luxury when the building has not only a private park, but also a wine cellar.
Another well-known residence is
Craigside, a gated condominium with pool, tennis courts and many other amenities. All floor plans, from 1 to 3 bedrooms, are roomy, but the crowning touch are the two story penthouse units that can see for miles. And miles.
Not all condos in Nuuanu are high-rises. Take a look at Streamside, which keeps the “___side” tradition intact, but is decidedly low-rise. It's townhome community that's gated with large dimensions in their split-level 2 and 3BRs, most with over 1,100 sq ft of interior. What makes life stand out most is its neighbor across the street,
Liliuokalani Botanical Gardens. You truly have an Eden of your own here.
Nuuanu remains a generally higher-end neighborhood, with its idyllic setting, crisper temperatures and wide angle views. All of this conveniently close to Downtown's offices and the city's shopping and dining. Though most famous for its old estates, discerning home buyers will get to know the condos, knowing that there's treasures to be uncovered there, too.
