The Kuahine can be found almost directly across University Ave from UH-Manoa. It's a neighborhood that is between the urban environment along King St and the rain-fed flora of the deeper Manoa Valley. You get more genteel, open and green surroundings than the neighboring areas makai, but not the daily showers and somewhat bottlenecked ingress and egress experienced by residents mauka.
This is another of the
Honolulu condo buildings where the ground floor is given over to covered parking. The residences fall into models of either 632 or 643 sq ft and lanais that you can count on adding 60 sq ft outdoors.
From your home you can look out upon Diamond Head, the Honolulu city lights and, in certain cases, those peek-a-boo views of the Pacific. The lower profile of the neighborhood makes even the Kuahine's 4 stories stand out much more than it would not far south. The upward slope of the land around University Ave helps too.
Besides UH-Manoa's proximity, you're also a straight shot of a few blocks to the H1 West entrance. King St, Beretania Ave and Kapiolani Blvd are all close by too, all major arteries across town and providing dining and shopping options all along them.
Upper Manoa's collection of restaurants, including Manoa Marketplace, with Safeway & Long's for most general needs, is a brief ride in the other direction.
If walking is a favorite activity, The Kuahine is an excellent choice. A stroll in the cool morning or evening is a treat when you have so much greenery to enjoy along with beautifully designed homes and buildings. UH's campus provides both in abundance and in a safer environment if needed.
At home, there is a Community Laundry, but some units do have washer/dryer inside. This is also a walk-up building, something to keep in mind for those with mobility issues. Finally, it is Leasehold, the lease expiring in 2035.
What The Kuahine provides is a nice entry point to a neighborhood that is popular, not just for the reasons above, but many others as well. This could be your affordable doorway into it.
