Exclusive doesn't begin to describe Puupanini, a neighborhood that's unknown even to most locals. Sitting just east of
Diamond Head Memorial Park, it sits on the western end of
Kahala's makai section, just before it transitions into the
Diamond Head district.
Puupanini real estate is famous for the many Mid-Century, and earlier, homes throughout, a number of them with famous pedigrees. Some of architect Vladimir Ossipoff's creations stand on these streets as well as at least one by Claude Albon Stiehl, who designed homes for the Castle and Dillingham families at the height of their influence in Hawaii.
If this neighborhood is known at all, it's for the fact that they have their own private park with secured tennis court for the residents' use only. That's exclusive.
Despite that, the fact that these aren't oceanfront homes and off the main track has kept the pricing relatively lower than other parts of Kahala. Puupanini real estate tends to go in the low $1Ms for the smaller houses, but that can quickly go up with size and legacy.
Tucked back here you can live something close to the experience of the old families that first built their homes here. Traffic is very rare on these streets, quiet is your constant companion and the evenings are exquisite. See you on the tennis court!
