These 3 West Maui communities cover 5 miles of beautiful shoreline that made the post-WWII move from plantation lands to resort communities inevitable.
Condos started being built here in the 1960s, with
Hale Kai being the first in 1966. Today condos make up 85% of the residences and the majority are on oceanfront properties.

- Napilihau Villages - Built 1997. 76 2BR units in 9 2-story buildings. Covered lanais on all residences. Amenities include BBQ.
- Napili Villas - Built 2001. 184 2 & 3BR townhouse units in 26 2-story buildings. Ocean is across the street from the complex. 2 parking spaces reserved for each unit. Amenities include private park.
- The Residences at Napili Bay (formerly Napili Gardens) – Built 1995. 16 3BR townhome units 6 2-story buildings. Each residence has a garage and its own private backyard. Napili Bay is just across the street. Gated community. Vacation rentals allowed.
- Villas at Kahana Ridge - Built in 2005 by Kahana Sun. 117 2 – 3BR units in 8 3-story buildings. Most condos have views of the ocean, which is only a couple of blocks away. Amenities include a recreation area, BBQ.
Life in Napili, Kahana & Honokowai The life of these communities, even more so than most in Maui, is focused on the shoreline. This is due to the fact that only in the main section of Napili are the residences more than 1/3 of a mile from the waves.
Napili Bay draws the crowds for its longer beach stretches and calmer waters, as well as the larger resorts being on or near it. However, you’ll find great spots all the way down the coast for snorkeling, swimming or just taking some time out and relaxing.
If you want to finally learn to surf or paddle board, make
Pohaku Beach (AKA S-Turns) your destination. Its friendlier waves have been teaching how to get up and ride for years.
Stop by the
Napili Farmers Market on Wednesdays for real local herbs, fruits, vegetables & more plus get to know some of your neighbors, too.
You can also feed yourself at many local restaurants, like
China Boat, which some say is the best Chinese food on the Island, or combine a good walk with a good breakfast and stop off at the famous
Gazebo restaurant, right on the
Napili Bay Beach Trail.
