Kuleana is a beachfront community in the Honokowai area, with residences that sit as close as 20 yards from the water.
The project was built in two phases that resulted in distinctly different styles of buildings.
Kuleana I The first phase built the two northernmost structures (Buildings ‘A’ & ‘B’), which have a unique trapezoidal shape to them.
Each building has two halves to it, one two-story, the other three. The one and two bedroom condos have interiors measuring from 504 to 1,033 Sq Ft with one lanai on the outside. The eighteen residences in Kuleana I divide into four of the two-bedroom floor plans and fourteen of the one bedroom. The two bedroom layouts all have a loft that contains one bedroom and a bathroom.
Kuleana II The later phase added the five buildings (‘C’ to ‘G’) that are more rectangular and are three stories, except for one end stack on each that is two stories.
These one and two bedroom condos have interiors that range from 473 to 1,030 Sq Ft with one lanai exterior adding 108 to 136 Sq Ft of space. Of the one hundred residences in Kuleana II, about ninety-five are one bedrooms, the other five being two bedroom layouts. The two bedrooms all have a loft that holds one of the bedrooms and a bathroom.
Both Kuleana I & II Each residence has one assigned, uncovered space for their parking. Ceiling fans are throughout the interiors, with some also having window a/c units installed by the owner. Washer/Dryer is inside every unit.
A solar pv system powers some of the common areas, like heating for the pool, but also the hot water heater for residences. These are all walk-up buildings so there are no elevators in the complex.
Most of these residences have ocean views that range from peekaboo to completely unobstructed.
Amenities & Things To Do There are actually two beaches off of your property, but they are seasonal, meaning that they are there only in certain parts of the year due to the tidal cycle. That said, when they are present these are wonderfully soft sands to unwind on for a while. The initial steps out into the water here are rocky, but the bed quickly drops off into deeper water. Out there the swimming is easy because of that and the offshore reef that keeps the conditions calm. That reef also means there’s good snorkeling here, too, so you can check out tropical fish, octopus, even sea turtles without going too far from your property.
If your beach is off-season, you have some options, the closest one being
Pohaku Beach Park (AKA S Turns), less than ½ mile north. It’s not a huge beach, but there’s certainly enough to find a place to lay back on here. This is another swimmer’s spot on the coast so you can get out for some exercise or just some time in the ocean.
Sea turtles are commonly around this part of the coastline, swimming nearby especially in the morning time. The park also has a grass area with shade trees and seating to sit and look out at the view if you’re not getting in that day.
