Meaning “House by the Sea” in Hawaiian, Hale Kai is known as the first condominium complex ever built in West Maui. This charming beachfront property boasts direct ocean views from many of its units. The complex is flanked by two sandy beaches, including
Honokowai Beach Park, a peaceful beach with a shallow swimming area ideal for families. In the winter, humpback whales are frequently spotted breaching in the distance. Shops and restaurants are a short distance away.
Hale Kai consists of two two-story buildings without elevators, designed in a vintage Hawaiiana style. Solar panels installed on the roof help reduce utility bills. For an added convenience to owners, Hale Kai vacation rentals are handled by an in-house management company, with a short-term rental manager on-site to assist guests.
Units range between 600 and 988 square feet, each with a lanai. The one-bedrooms on the second floor have a lofted area spacious enough for a sofa or small office while all two-bedroom units have an lofted upstairs bedroom. Those with an upstairs space also feature high-vaulted ceilings for a bright and airy atmosphere.
Although there is no air conditioning throughout the complex, Honokowai is cooler and breezier than the rest of West Maui. Units also don’t include ensuite washers and dryers, but there is an on-site laundry room plus a laundry sink and clotheslines behind the office.
The complex’s beautifully landscaped grounds extend right to the water's edge, perched against a rock wall. The oceanfront pool has plenty of loungers and a barbecue area with two gas grills and tables.
Each unit get one unassigned parking stall.
