The Kona Islander Inn is just across the street from
Kalaepaakai Beach, with only 50 yards between the condos closest to Alii Dr and the ocean waters.

Even if the surf is too strong, you have a beautiful view from shore, especially at sunset time.
One mile north is
Kamakahonu Beach, where you have more welcoming waters because of its location inside a cove. Here the swimming conditions are consistently good and there’s also a reef not very far out from the beach that is a popular snorkeling spot.
Kailua Pier, right beside the beach, is the location for many local events and festivals, plus you can enjoy an excellent sunset view at the end of it.
