Ke Kailani (also called One Ocean) is a gated, oceanfront community in the
Mauna Lani Resort. It forms almost a straight line as it goes from the King’s Hwy Foot Trail on the mountain side all the way to the shoreline. The 4th, 5th and 6th Fairways of the
South Course lie along its north side for the entire span.
There are actually two residential areas inside Ke Kailani, although the Villas are grouped together in the middle of the ‘stack’ of properties, bookended by the homesites.
Houses & Homesites Originally offered as vacant lots for owners to build on, there are now a mix of houses and still empty homesites here. The lots are from 15.8K Sq Ft to 1.36 Acres in size, with the homes generally being four to six bedrooms over interiors of 4K to 5K Sq Ft. At least two lanais are on their exterior. These properties are square shaped at the eastern end, but become more rectangular as they get nearer to the water. Unlike the lots behind, which are roughly parallel to the coastline (long side facing it), the four rectangular oceanfront lots are aligned perpendicular to it. Many of these have ocean views, a few, like the four lots up front, are unobstructed.
Villas The Villas are duplex, two story townhomes with three bedrooms and interiors from 3,121 to 3,371 Sq Ft. They also have two or three lanais. The upstairs is smaller than the first floor, holding a bedroom/bathroom, an office and one of the lanais. All have a pool, backyard space and a two-car garage large enough to also park a golf cart inside. Central air conditioning is in all villas. Plans are for more Villas to be built in future years. All the existing townhomes have a view of the ocean.
Amenities & Things To Do Ke Kailani is unusual because it has two recreation areas, one each at the mountain and ocean end of the neighborhood:
- Hana Pono Park, on the mountain side, covers 5 ½ acres with a large open, green space to play on, as well as a pool, a separate children’s pool, fitness center and an event pavilion.
- The Oceanfront Grotto also has a sand-bottomed pool, plus two spas, two more pavilions for parties & get-togethers, as well as BBQs.
49 Black Sand Beach sits 1/3 mile away, but across fairways and stretches of lava rock, so the safe route to it is about two miles. However, Mauna Lani has a free shuttle service, which will take you, and your snorkeling gear, right there. That same shuttle will also get you to Mauna Lani Beach and Pauoa Beach, both with waters that have good swimming conditions in their calmer waters.
Also provided for you is membership in the Mauna Lani Advantage Club. This allows you to use the Mauna Lani Beach Club, with its private beach on
Makaiwa Bay, as well as cabanas, beach services and even a restaurant. Members get to access the facilities at the Sports & Fitness Club, including the tennis & pickleball courts, saunas and a staffed fitness center. You even can play on
both of the resort golf courses and the
tennis club as well.
